By closing data gaps, collaborating with academic and conservation partners, and implementing evidence-based strategies, we advance conservation efforts that safeguard biodiversity, support healthy ecosystems, and ultimately foster a more sustainable future for people and wildlife alike.
Wildlife Conservation Projects
Our team has contributed to a range of impactful projects, each one expanding our understanding of Lebanon’s unique biodiversity and informing conservation actions. Some of our key projects include:
Fauna Survey in Mount Kneisseh (FON-CEPF 108784) — 2021
Conducted a targeted survey of threatened and endemic species, focusing on the Kulzer Lizard (Phoenicolacerta kulzeri). This project strengthened conservation efforts and highlighted the presence of rare species, paving the way for targeted conservation measures.
Fauna Survey in Bisri Valley (Terre Liban-CEPF 112308) — 2021
Updated and expanded local fauna data to address the serious threats facing Bisri Valley, enhancing protection strategies for its biodiversity.
Collaborated to produce specie-specific anti-venom for Lebanon’s three venomous vipers, advancing local snakebite treatment and public safety.
Wolf Genome Sequencing (Cardiff University) — 2022
Shared blood samples from two rescued grey wolves to confirm lineage and detect any hybridisation, supporting evidence-based wolf conservation.
Forest Dormice Study (LRI) — 2024
Provided tissue samples from rescued dormice before release, contributing critical data on genetics and health for a long-term population study.
Lebanese Wildlife (LW) is a dedicated environmental conservation NGO, founded in June 2020. Born from a passion for animal welfare, LW has been at the forefront of rescuing and rehabilitating injured, orphaned, and trafficked local wildlife.
